A special afternoon event of talks and music in the National Library commemorating the lives of two great Irish cultural and historical figures, Séamus Ennis and Hugh O'Neill. The event marks the centenary of the birth of Séamus Ennis, the celebrated uilleann piper, singer, collector and storyteller. It will also take a look back at the turbulent history of Ireland in the late 16th Century and with an examination of the life of the Great O'Neill through music, drama and story.

Talks:
12pm – 12.30pm. Speaker: Professor Ciarán Brady TCD. ‘The Life and Times of Hugh O'Neill', Earl of Tyrone.
12.35pm – 1.05pm. Speaker: Peter Browne, piper and former RTÉ producer. ‘The Life and Music of Séamus Ennis'.

Music:
3pm – 3.15pm: ‘The Road to Lough Swilly' – Introduction by Dr. Fintan Vallely, flautist, lecturer and author of the Companion to Irish Traditional Music (Cork University Press, 2011).
3.20pm – 4.30 pm: ‘The Road to Lough Swilly' – A Recital featuring Mick O'Brien, renowned uilleann piper and teacher, Dónal O'Kelly, actor and playwright, The Boyne Valley Chamber Orchestra and Michael Holohan, composer, producer and musical director.

All welcome. Free admission to all parts of the event. (first come, first served basis).
