Balbriggan’s close proximity to the city means that a huge percentage of people travel to Dublin to work daily, creating a ‘Dormitory Town’. Many of our own town centre buildings are vacant with little localised economic activity. According to the 2016 census, the rate of employment in Balbriggan is significantly lower than for similar towns such as Navan or Portlaoise, and the Balbriggan workforce is comparatively more concentrated in occupation groups with lower average wage levels.
We want to bring investment to Balbriggan, to support local jobs, enterprises, start-ups and to attract larger companies to set up base in our town. We are looking for exciting ideas to support this goal.
What The Hack will divide participants into teams based on their areas of interest. If you don’t have a team already, no worries! We’ll find you one. If you have a team you’d like to work with you’re welcome to apply as a group.
Teams that are applying together must participate in the workshops throughout the event, the mentoring sessions, and present in the end of day standups.
If pre-made teams are in need of more participants they may request help in getting more team members, but the creation of new teams will be given priority.
