Moore Street, Sunday 22nd October

Moore Street is coming alive with the Moore Street Party – Spraoi ar an Sráid on Sunday, 22nd October, from 12 noon to 5pm. Hosted by Ardmhéara Mícheál MacDonncha and Dublin City Council, visitors will experience the spirit of bygone days as we honour the extensive past and potential future of one of Dublin’s best loved streets with ceol agus craic.

Visitors will be surrounded by living history as children re-enact street games and songs. Actors will deliver historical speeches, read personal letters and relay eye witness accounts from the 1916 Rising, depicting the colourful history of Moore Street. The voices of James Connolly, Pádraig Pearse, Nurse Elizabeth O’Farrell and The O’Rahilly will be heard. Street traders will be clothed in traditional dress to celebrate the vibrant history of Moore Street throughout the ages from the 18th century to present times. Members of the public will be invited to dress in early 20th century clothes, with prizes for the best dressed male and female!

Walking tours of the historic path taken by the 1916 leaders from the GPO to Moore Street, will be hosted by James Connolly Heron, great grandson of James Connolly, throughout the day. Visitors to the Moore Street Party are invited to register for a free tour of the GPO Experience. A vintage carousel will delight crowds, young and old, as live musical performances showcase traditional Irish music including appearances by Frances Black and Pete St John. A Book Barrel in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland will also be situated on Moore Street.

Speaking on the Moore Street Party, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ardmhéara Mícheál MacDonncha said, “This unique day will celebrate the lively culture and history of Moore Street. A unique landmark for Dublin, and the nation of Ireland, it is vital that we acknowledge its central place in Irish history from the 18th century to the 1916 Rising and to today, as well as its potential at the centre of a vibrant historic quarter of our city. The day will be packed with varying activity, welcoming people of all ages.”

“Lá chun oidhreacht na sráide a cheiliúradh a bheidh ann, le ceol agus stair agus imeachtaí do pháistí. Ó Poblacht 1916 go dtí an lá atá inniú ann tá ról lárnach ag an sráid seo i saol na Cathrach agus saol na tire.”

The Moore Street Party – Spraoi ar an Sráid is the initiative of Ardmhéara Mícheál MacDonncha and brought to you by Dublin City Council.
