Mondays at the Mess: ‘The Citizen Army is Out Today’

This event has ended

Richmond Barracks, Monday 4th April

Mondays at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.

The Irish Citizen Army was established almost 100 years ago in 1913, at the height of the Dublin Lockout. It's members would shape the trajectory of Irish history through their involvement in the 1916 Easter Rising, War of Independence (1919-1921) and Irish Civil War (1922-23).

Following the events of Easter Sunday 1916 many leaders from the Irish Citizen Army were imprisoned at Richmond Barracks, while around the corner the Inchicore- Crumlin section of the Irish Citizen Army had been trained and armed. During this in-person talk historian Lorcan Collins will examine the history of the Irish Citizen Army.

Lorcan Collins is the founder of the 1916 Walking Tour, presenter of the Revolutionary Ireland podcast series and the author of a biography of James Connolly.
