When remembering how Irish emigrants have shaped the world, we should also celebrate how immigrants have shaped Ireland. This talk will explore Ireland’s complex historical path to becoming the diverse nation that it is today.
While migrant communities have long made positive contributions to Irish politics and society, the experience of xenophobia is a constant strain running through the history of Ireland and its migrant communities. The campaigns of groups like MASI, the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland, have illuminated contemporary injustices, particularly within the Direct Provision system.
In the final event in this series, Dr Maurice J Casey will be joined by Amanda Nyoni of MASI to talk about the campaign for justice, freedom and dignity for asylum seekers in Ireland.
This event is free. A suggested donation of €5 to the Movement for Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) is welcome.
