To coincide with Heritage Week 2021, InForm Curator, Dr. Edith Andrees will be joined by some of the emerging makers featured in the exhibition. They will be discussing their creative practice and their involvement in the two year collaborative project. Booking Required.
Jeweller Mark Newman will be discussing, Irish thatch and ‘Brutalist’ architecture. Mark drew inspiration from a drawing from the Museum collections. The drawing illustrates the front elevation of a house in Baile an tSagairt, An Spidéal, Co. Galway, Ireland, 1930–1940. This drawing is part of an architectural survey of Irish houses, which was conducted by Swedish ethnologists following an invitation from the Irish Folklore Commission.
Ceramicist Jennifer Alford will discuss, On Stage, which took direct inspiration from the early 20th century Rushlight and candleholder, from County Kerry, Ireland. Made of iron and sitting on a wooden base, the object is part of the Irish Folklife Collection at the National Museum of Ireland.
