Always Brighter Stories celebrates people doing kind, inclusive work in their communities across Dublin. From volunteer groups to disability activists, social enterprises, charities and more, we’re spotlighting these stories to thank all Dubliners who positively impact our city and county.

Social entrepreneur Sinéad Ryan founded Little Fitness to provide physical activity to children and families living in emergency accommodation, family hubs and where children may come up against barriers within their community.

The programme teaches weekly fitness classes in an educational way using different themes, skills and games to engage young people and provide a fun, safe space for them to exercise. Children participating in Little Fitness build confidence and social skills in a non-competitive environment, helping them to become more resilient and improving their sense of wellbeing. Parents and guardians of participants also benefit from the programme, as they can take a break, have a cup of tea, and chat with other adults, knowing their children are being cared for during classes.

Sinéad is from Santry in north Dublin, holds a Sport and Physical Education degree, and brings over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry to Little Fitness. Her work has been recognised with several awards, including a Dublin City Council Social Enterprise Award in 2022, an Impact Award from Social Entrepreneurs Ireland in 2023, and the Not-for-profit Organisation of the Year Award from Fingal Chamber in 2024.

Little Fitness operates in partnership with several organisations, including Crosscare Family Hub, Young Ballymun, Dublin City South Partnership, Dublin North Partnership, and community creches, to reach as many young people in need as possible.

You can learn more about Little Fitness by visiting their website and following them on Instagram, Facebook, and X/Twitter.

This initiative is brought to you by Dublin City Council, with support from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste.
