Always Brighter Stories celebrates people doing kind, inclusive work in their communities across Dublin. From volunteer groups to disability activists, social enterprises, charities and more, we’re spotlighting these stories to thank all Dubliners who positively impact our city and county. This initiative is brought to you by Dublin City Council, with support from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste.

Sanctuary Runners is a solidarity-through-sport initiative that uses running, jogging, and walking to unite asylum seekers, refugees, migrants, and all Irish residents. They are a non-political group that focuses on positive action, operating under solidarity, friendship and respect. They aim not to be the fastest or most competitive running group in the country but the friendliest!

The work of Sanctuary Runners allows communities to get to know each other, fosters community integration and improves physical and mental health. First established in Cork in February 2018 by Graham Clifford and Clare Keogh, they have since expanded nationwide. There are now more than 50 groups with 1,200+ regular runners involved. They even have three groups in London, and more to come across Europe.

In Dublin, you can find the Sanctuary Runners in five locations: Fairview Park, Dodder Valley Park in Tallaght, Corkagh Park in Clondalkin, Poolbeg, and Poppintree. For more information or to get involved, you can contact Sanctuary Runners by email at dublin[at]sanctuaryrunners.ie and get their latest updates on Instagram (@SanctuaryRunDub & SanctuaryRunner), X/Twitter (@SanctuaryRunDub & SanctuaryRunner) and Tiktok (@thesanctuaryrunners).
