“Arcana imperii: soft power and the secrets of the Augustan Revolution”, presented by Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill.

Professor Wallace-Hadrill, OBE, FBA, FSA is Professor of Roman Studies and Director of Research in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge, having been Master of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge from 2009 to 2013, and Director of the British School at Rome from 1995 to 2009, during which time he established the Herculaneum Conservation Project with funding from the Packard Humanities Institute.

A regular presence in BBC documentaries, his book and article publications have focused on Pompeii and Herculaneum, the politics and culture of the Augustan period, and other aspects of Roman history, archaeology, and material culture.

His lecture at UCD will explain the ‘secrets of empire' (arcana imperii) in the political and cultural revolution of Rome's first emperor Augustus.

“Arcana imperii: soft power and the secrets of the Augustan Revolution” is free to attend and open to the general public but booking is essential.
