Button Factory, Wednesday 18th August

Turnstiles will perform a socially distant Button Factory show on Wednesday August 18th 2021 with support from Static Vision.

This is a seated and socially distanced event.

Turnstiles are an alternative punk band from Galway, Ireland. London born frontman Callum Mitchell delivers stinging lyrics over the treble-heavy, shrapnel-spraying guitars of Colm Sweeney and Cillian Ryan, all backed by the powerhouse rhythms of Luke Mulliez and Jake Tiernan. Having carved out their own sound, and made a name for themselves locally with rowdy live shows in sitting rooms and pubs, Turnstiles recorded their first single ‘Moving Forward / Wasting Away' in August of 2019. The follow up ‘Tantrum' was released in February 2020 and was their first track to receive airplay on Irish national radio. With festival slots at Forbidden Fruit and KFest Covid-cancelled, Turnstiles concentrated on new music. They released ‘I.D.C' in a locked down April '20 and Same Old Stories in July.

MARS

Abbey Theatre

Four astronauts and an AI software interface are cooped up in the cabin of a space-craft for nine months on a mission to Mars. As they journey across the vast abyss of space, tensions rise, relationships are tested, and seasons of Real Housewives are watched and re-watched. Arriving on the red planet, they confront isolation, sinister ideologies, the prospect of alien life, and a vibe shift toward corporate authoritarianism. MARS is an opera about space colonisation, reactionary futurism, pronatalism, the madness of hustle culture, and the unsettling futures encroaching on our present.
