The The, the brainchild of songwriter Matt Johnson, are one of the most brilliantly original bands of the 1980s and 1990s.
Johnson formed his first band at the age of 11. At 17 he formed THE THE and by the age of 21 he had signed to the American record company CBS. He began releasing a series of albums over the following two decades which earned him a large and loyal international following, not only for his unique style of composition and production, but also for his intensely personal and political lyrics and outspoken interviews.
