Talks at the Mess: William Partridge, the Forgotten Leader

This event has ended

Richmond Barracks, Wednesday 1st May

Talks at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks, Inchicore that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.

William Partridge (1874-1917) has been described as ‘the forgotten leader' of the Irish labour movement. He is an important part of local history, living and working in the area. In recent times, the Kilmainham and Inchicore Heritage Group have successfully marked Emmet Hall with commemorative plaques.

In this illustrated talk, historian Pádraig Yeates will discuss the importance of Partridge to the Irish Transport and General Workers Union, the Irish Citizen Army, and to the story of the 1913 Lockout and subsequent revolutionary period in Dublin.

Pádraig Yeates is the author of a new biography of Partridge (published by Umiksin Press) and the author of Lockout: Dublin 1913.
