This event has ended

Merrion Square, Saturday 4th May

Happenings with Dublin City Council present an open air screening of the original Star Wars sci-fi classic – A New Hope.

‘May the 4th be with you.' This pun has led Star Wars fans across the world to recognise May the 4th as Star Wars Day – a day to celebrate the timeless franchise that has influenced our world in countless ways. Whilst A New Hope, the first movie in the series, debuted in 1977, the phrase was not coined until 1979 in a London Evening News ad congratulating the recently elected British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. And who knew she would go on to be the the real life Emperor of the Dark side. We'll raise a lightsaber to the irony of that baby.

Join us on Saturday the 4th of May, in Merrion Square for sci-fi classic A New Hope. Obviously there will be a screening of The Empire Strikes back soon after, so stay tuned for that.

Gates are open from 8.30pm with the film kicking off when the sun goes down (approx 9.30pm). There will be teas, coffees, sweet and savoury treats on offer for all. Bring blankets, chairs and warm things as always. For the first time EVER, finally it is on!

Strictly alcohol free event.
