Republic of Ireland vs Northern Ireland

This event has ended

Aviva Stadium, Thursday 15th November

The Republic of Ireland will take on their neighbours to the north in friendly game during the November international break.

This will be the first time that The Republic have played Northern Ireland since 2011, when the two teams met in the short-lived Nations Cup tournament. On that occasion, The Republic ran out 5-0 victors at the Aviva stadium, in a match which did little to suggest that Northern Ireland would soon outrank them in the FIFA World Rankings.

On this occasion, the teams will be on a much more equal footing. Both teams made it to the last 16 of the Euro 2016, both were eliminated at the play-off stage of World Cup qualification, and both find themselves in League B of the UEFA's complicated Nations League tournament, and coincidentally both are managed by men named O'Neill.

This will be both teams' last match before the draw for Euro 2020 qualifying tournament is made in Dublin at the start of December, and it will be hugely exciting to see where both teams stand ahead of that crucial night.
