Queer Visibility in Football

This event has ended

Project Arts Centre, Monday 12th June

“I no longer want to hide myself,” so declared Czech footballer Jakob Jankto in February this year, becoming the highest profile openly LGBTQ+ footballer in the elite men's game to do so.

Joining role models like Megan Rapinoe, Magdalena Eriksson, Quinn, Jake Daniels, and Josh Cavallo, Jankto's action will help pave the way for others to follow but also highlights how football remains one sphere of wider society in which the progress made around queer representation and visibility has been lacking, particularly in the professional men's game.

Why is this? What progress has been made? How can football ‘catch up'?

Bohemian FC is proud to present a panel discussion on ‘Queer Visibility in Football' as part of this year's events for Dublin Pride.

Join moderator Colm Ó'Mongáin (presenter of RTÉ's The Late Debate and Saturday With Colm) and a panel of football experts and LGBTQ+ footballers and educators, including Ken Early (Second Captains/The Irish Times), Gerry Farrell (football historian), Cecelia Gavigan (INTO LGBT+ Teachers' Group), Adam Kane (Dublin Devils FC) and Sinéad Taylor (former captain Bohs senior WNL team), for an insightful look at the current state of play and challenges ahead around LGBTQ+ representation in the beautiful game. Q&A to follow.

Project Arts Centre is proudly supported by The Arts Council and Dublin City Council.
