This exhibition is part of a series of exhibitions in the Central Bank of Ireland. The Bank has part sponsoring the festival for the last three years, and this partnership is a great opportunity to bring local artists and the community together. Dublin Port Company is also sponsoring this exhibition.
Tony is a north side Dub, born before the urban sprawl swallowed the fields and hedgerows, streams and ponds that were both playgrounds and classrooms to kids of his generation. Birds’ nests, bees, pinkeens, and frogs were all regular features of their days scrambling through the fields and kindled Tony’s life-long passion for wildlife and nature. These were to become the ‘day job’ later in life, and he continues to work as an environmental scientist today.
Drawing was always part of Tony’s life, and while he dabbled with paints on and off over the years, he began painting seriously 40 years ago under the tuition of Dublin landscape artist Jerry Marjoram. Most of Tony’s work at that point was in acrylic paints and reflected his own interests in wildlife and wild landscapes, mostly of Ireland, but also pieces inspired by trips to Africa and Northern Canada. His works sold regularly in galleries in Dublin and Galway, at auctions, group exhibitions and through many private commissions. This is his first solo exhibition.
