Brigid’s Day Sculpture Workshop In Aid Of Hometree

Throwing Shapes, Sunday 1st February

Taking place on Brigid’s Day, Sunday 1st February from 13:00 – 16:30, this one-off workshop is a reflective and creative making session inspired by Imbolc – a moment in the calendar that sits between darkness and light, winter and the promise of spring.

At this time of year the weather is still unsettled: rain, damp air, grey skies, and brief glimpses of brightness. This workshop draws inspiration from the late Manchán Magan’s book 99 Words for Rain and One for Sun, and is offered in his honour – celebrating language, landscape, and our deep relationship with weather and place.

Each participant will receive a word from the book and use it as the starting point for making a small abstract sculpture. We’ll work with a specialist, highly grogged clay suited to expressive sculptural forms, alongside underglazes to add subtle colour and depth. The focus is on intuition, texture, and response rather than realism or technical perfection.

This workshop is designed as a collective making experience with 100% of proceeds going to Hometree Charity.

No previous experience is required. This is a slow, thoughtful workshop rooted in making, reflection, and marking the turning of the year.

Brigit x District opens the festival weekend with a rare headline performance from Gemma Dunleavy. Since the release of UP DE FLATS in 2020, Dunleavy has largely stepped away from releasing music, choosing instead to refine her sound behind the scenes. Her return for Brigit feels timely. Rooted in stories of working-class Dublin and shaped by her upbringing in Sheriff Street, her club-pop songs balance emotional clarity with sharp, understated production. Set within the intimate surroundings of the Presbyterian Church, this show offers a focused live moment to mark Brigit: Dublin City Ce
