Mirandolina

Abbey Theatre, Friday 28th August - Saturday 5th September

“Oh, she’s born and she’ll leave you in smithereens”

Marina Carr returns to the Abbey Theatre this summer and brings a little piece of Italy to Ireland’s National Stage for 9 performances only.

Joining forces once again, Marina Carr and Caitríona McLaughlin reimagine La Locandiera, Carlo Goldoni’s revolutionary masterpiece, from an urgent and contemporary perspective to give us Mirandolina.

Set in modern day Dublin, Mirandolina examines the life of a young woman trying to find her way in the world, surrounded by admirers and predators. Transcending centuries and language, Mirandolina finds fresh and unprecedented connections between the past and the present and explores the weight of female fear and the cost of fighting back.

Translated by Monica Capuani, Mirandolina is performed in Italian with English surtitles and is a co-production by the Abbey Theatre Ireland, Teatro Stabile del Veneto – Teatro Nazionale Italy, and Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka – HNK Rijeka. You can read Caitríona McLaughlin’s thoughts on this project as part of the Winter Olympics 2026 here and within the broader cultural context here.

It premiered in Treviso, Italy, in February 2026 and toured to Belluno, Venice, Padua, Verona, Rijeka, and Milan.

Dead Pioneers

The Workman's Club

Dead Pioneers emerged as a dynamic extension of vocalist Gregg Deal’s performance art, seamlessly blending music with critical cultural commentary. Rooted in the same themes of identity and resistance that define his visual work, the band’s sound acts as a powerful platform for addressing the complexities of Indigenous experience. Deal harnesses the raw energy of post-punk and alternative influences to challenge prevailing narratives, using lyrics that provoke thought and evoke emotion. Just as his performance art confronts the legacies of colonization and systemic marginalization, Dead Pi
