Varies, Thursday 1st January - Saturday 31st January
Whether you’re looking for a new hobby or simply want to meet new people, Dry January offers a variety of events for you to explore without the pressure of drinking.
Dry January started in 2013 as a campaign to encourage people to take a break from drinking for the month of January.
One of the hardest parts for many people is the social side, especially in Ireland where so many meetups, celebrations, and casual plans happen in pubs and alcohol plays a big role in social life. That is why we started a festival of events in 2022 where the focus is not on drinking. Throughout January, there are 120+ (and counting) plus events designed to help people stay social, meet new people, and have fun without alcohol being at the centre.
The events take place in a mix of spaces. Some are held in pubs, others in art studios, pottery studio, venues and even outdoors. They include hikes, art classes, charity shop crawls, pottery, speed friending, and lots more. People are not forced to avoid alcohol at these events and can have a drink if they choose. The aim is simply to encourage people to socialise sober, or at least without alcohol being the main focus.
Dry January is not about missing out. It is about creating space for connection, trying something new, and showing that social life can be just as fun, relaxed, and welcoming without relying on alcohol
