Baggot Street, Wednesday 17th September - Sunday 21st September
Baggotonia Festival returns this Autumn, bringing five days of culture and celebration to Dublin’s historic Baggot Street and surrounding areas.
Inspired by the mid-20th century bohemians who made Baggotonia famous — amongst them, Patrick Kavanagh, Elizabeth Bowen, Flann O’Brien, Brendan Behan and artist Frances Bunch Moran – the festival will showcase the area’s unique blend of heritage and creativity.
Now in its second year, the festival is a celebration of Baggotonia past, and the words and works of writers and artists who made Baggot Street and the Grand Canal their home and workplace in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It’s also a celebration of Baggotonia present and future, with everyone who lives, works, visits and creates in this vibrant neighbourhood invited to come and take part in the festivities.
The organisers say, “Baggotonia has always been about people coming together to share stories, spark ideas and celebrate life. This year’s festival is an invitation for everyone to learn about what makes this area so special. Whether that’s through poetry by the canal, a walk through Dublin’s literary history, or simply enjoying the buzz of Baggot Street and the beauty of the Grand Canal.”
