Out of Egypt Lecture Series

While the Biblical texts are the mοst famous of Chester Beatty’s papyrological holdings, the museum also possesses remarkable unpublished documents of the same period that deal with various aspects of life on the land and in the small towns of Roman Egypt. This lecture will present some of these exciting new discoveries.

About the Speaker:
Brian McGing is a former Senior Fellow and Regius Professor of Greek at Trinity College Dublin. He is an ancient historian and papyrologist with a special interest in the lands at the eastern end of the Mediterranean. His most recent book is a new edition of the works of the 2nd century AD historian, Appian of Alexandria, for the Loeb series (6 volumes, Cambridge, Mass., 2019-2022).
