While it’s always a good idea to shop local, Dublin businesses need our support more than ever as a result of the pandemic.

If you live in Dublin, here are five tips to help you shop local:

1. Check out local business directories

• ShopLocalOnline.ie: This free directory lists over 1,000 small businesses. You can filter the results by county, town and business type.
• SupportDublin.com: Developed by local creative agency, Netll, this directory lists a range of businesses from across the city that are looking for support.
• Shoplocal.irish: You can search this handy directory by keyword or choose a category and set your location for some shopping inspiration.
• The New Shopkeepers: TheLocals.ie covers the happenings of communities around Dublin and regularly updates this section on the city’s newly opened businesses.
• goldenpages.ie: This old school business directory has a comprehensive list of businesses in every area around the city.
• GetLocal.ie: If you’re looking to shop local online, this site will direct you to the businesses around Dublin that allow you to order their products from the comfort of your own home.

2. Order your messages (groceries) from local suppliers

• MyMilkman.ie: This site allows you to find your nearest milkman so you can arrange deliveries of Avonmore milk, as well as other dairy products, eggs and juice.
• All The Food: Restaurant review site All the Food features a comprehensive list of bakers, butchers, cheesemongers and grocers around the country to help you find one nearby and shop local.
• Deliveroo: Although Deliveroo is primarily for ordering food from takeaways and restaurants, its site does feature some of local Dublin markets and off licences too.

3. Find local restaurants that deliver

• The Michelin Guide: If you’re looking for a fine-dining restaurant experience at home, you’ll find the highest quality takeaways your area has to offer in the Michelin Guide.
• OpenTable: provides a handy roundup of all the restaurants that are open for delivery near you.
• Uber Eats: This online ordering platform will let you check out takeaways in your local area.
• Just-Eat.ie: Just like Uber Eats, Just Eat allows you to view the takeaways in your area that offer collection and delivery.

4. Use of Google Maps to shop local

Google has updated its local business listings to highlight shops, restaurants, bars and cafés that offer no-contact delivery, in-store pick-up and curbside pick-up.

So whatever you’re looking for, just Google it. Whether you search for ‘flowers near me’ or ‘mimosas near Dublin city centre’, you should see a selection of options nearby.

5. Visit a city centre market
