Online, Monday 13th July - Friday 17th July

Songschool – Online Summer Camp for secondary school students interested in writing and recording songs, learning about music technology, with NCH and Createschool.

This year we are transferring the Summer Songschool experience online and keeping it real in the process. There will be loads of new activities and features as well as all of the essential elements of our long-running flagship songwriting, recording and performance workshop. There is a blended mix of live online sessions and pre-recorded tutorials combined with offline activities. Participants will be able to work on their own and group projects via dedicated safe digital spaces. The songs and music that they create can then be shared online in a dedicated showcase.

  • Suitable for all levels and musical interests from 12 – 18 years.
  • The ability to play an instrument is not a pre-requisite.
  • The course can be accessed and completed using a smartphone, tablet or PC.

Each day of Songschool will be structured as follows:

10.00am-11.00am: Daily Online Introduction and Activity
11.00am-12.00pm: Offline Activity (independent work for each participant)
12.00pm-12.30pm: Online Group Session
12.30pm- 1.30pm: Lunch Break
1.30pm- 2.30pm: Online Group Sessions
2.30pm-3.30pm: Offline Activity (independent work for each participant)

Queer Georgians: A Hidden History of Lovers, Lawbreakers and Homemakers

Wood Quay Venue

This lecture uncovers the queer lives hidden (and not so hidden) across Georgian Britain and Ireland, from devoted lovers and unconventional households to figures who quietly defied the rules of their age. Central to the story are the Ladies of Llangollen (or the Ladies from Kilkenny), whose Irish history offers a vivid way into a world of domesticity, intimacy, friendship, and chosen family. Moving beyond scandal and secrecy, the talk reveals a Georgian past that was far more diverse, daring, and emotionally rich than we are often led to believe. ISL interpretation will be provided.
