Remembering Brendan Kennelly – In Treasured Moments

This event has ended

Round Room at the Mansion House, Sunday 19th April

In the majestic surroundings of the Round Room at the Mansion House in Dublin, acclaimed performer Noel O’Grady presents a moving and celebratory one-man show honouring his great friend, the legendary Irish poet Brendan Kennelly, on the 90th anniversary of his birth.

This intimate and richly layered performance is both tribute and remembrance, a heartfelt portrait of a giant of Irish literature told through personal stories, rare recordings, powerful recitals and song. O’Grady, who knew Kennelly personally, weaves together vivid anecdotes of the man behind the poems: his generosity of spirit, mischievous wit, profound humanity, and his unwavering belief in the power of language to heal and transform.

Audiences will hear Kennelly’s own voice in specially featured recordings, speaking about his work, his philosophy, and his deep love of Ireland and its people. These moments are interwoven with live readings of some of his most celebrated poetry, from tender reflections to the fierce and fearless works that cemented his reputation as one of Ireland’s most important literary figures.

Brendan loved the purity of the singing voice and Noel's soulful interpretation of song was much admired by the poet. In his foreword to Noel's 1999 album, The Enchanted Way, Brendan wrote:

This collection of lovesongs sung by Noel O'Grady is an invitation to all people to listen to the words and music of love at their most enchantingly beautiful.

Set beneath the domed splendour of one of Dublin’s most historic venues, this commemorative evening promises laughter, reflection, and inspiration, a celebration not only of Brendan Kennelly the poet, but Brendan the friend, mentor, and unforgettable presence.

A night of words, memory, and music of the soul.
