Mondays at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.

During this talk Feminist historian Dr Margaret Ward will discuss her recently re-published book Unmanageable Revolutionaries: Women and Irish Nationalism 1880-1980, a landmark study of the role of women in Irish political history. Beginning with the Ladies Land League, and continuing through to the revolutionary period, the book examines the role of women in events such as the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War, drawing on the memoirs of protagonists and research of primary source materials.

Dr Margaret Ward has authored a number of books on women’s history including Unmanageable Revolutionaries: Women and Irish Nationalism and biographies of figures including Maud Gonne and Hanna Sheehy Skeffington.

Create a Patchwork Cloak Workshop

Family Workshop: Create a Patchwork Cloak Join artist Karen Peakin to celebrate St Brigid’s Festival by creating your own patchwork quilt inspired by Gerard Dillon’s Little Green Fields. Families are invited to explore paper weaving and collage to make individual patches, which will come together to form a communal ‘St Brigid’ cloak. Take inspiration from the colour and composition of Dillon’s artwork, on display in the Irish Rooms, as you design your patch. Once complete, your patch will be added to the collective cloak! St Brigid’s Festival – The Irish Composers Collective: ‘Sounds of Spring’

Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello), Sylvia O’Brien (soprano) and Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp) celebrate the songs of spring at the National Botanical Gardens in Glasnevin. The Irish Composers Collective presents Songs of Spring, a lunchtime concert of newly commissioned chamber music for harp, cello and soprano, set against the beautiful backdrop of the National Botanic Gardens. Acclaimed musicians Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello), Sylvia O’Brien (soprano) and Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp) will perform a selection of new works by members of the Irish Composers Collective. Written espec
