The Goethe Choir Christmas Special

National Concert Hall, Wednesday 16th December

Join the Goethe Choir for a festive celebration of Christmas music from across the centuries and around the world. This special seasonal concert brings together some of the most beloved choruses, arias, traditional works, and carols, creating an inspiring musical journey from Advent reflection to Christmas joy.

The programme features famous choruses and arias from Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and George Frideric Handel's Messiah, two masterpieces that have become cornerstones of the Christmas season. Instrumental brilliance is represented by Antonio Vivaldi's “Winter” from The Four Seasons, while the gentle beauty of Engelbert Humperdinck's “Abendsegen” from Hänsel und Gretel offers a moment of serene contemplation. The choir will also perform Benjamin Britten's Te Deum in C, a radiant work of praise and thanksgiving, to remember his 50th anniversary of death.

Completing the programme is a delightful selection of international Christmas carols from Norway, America, Austria, Britain, and Ireland, reflecting the rich diversity of Christmas traditions across cultures. A special highlight will be the beloved Stille Nacht (Silent Night), performed in three languages, celebrating the universal message of peace, hope, and goodwill.

Whether you are drawn by the splendour of the great Baroque masters, the charm of traditional carols, or the warmth of communal Christmas music-making, this Goethe Choir Christmas Special promises an evening of beauty, inspiration, and festive cheer for all.

Bringing together artists working across installation, performance, sound, games and digital media, the programme asks what happens when we de-centre the human perspective and begin to consider the intelligence of landscapes, plants, animals and machines. Through immersive experiences and participatory artworks, audiences are invited to encounter technologies as systems that shape our relationships with each other and with the environments we inhabit.
