Fred Wesley

The Grand Social, Thursday 27th March

FRED WESLEY is THE ultimate FUNK MASTER. Through the many years as musical director with The James Brown Band to the spin off group James Brown and The JB’s to many years with George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic. Fred Wesley and the new JB’s were the biggest funk group of the 90’s and now he returns to Dublin with his award winning project “Generations”. Wesley, already recognised as one of the architects of Funk, uses the project to connect to his jazz roots and to the future. Don’t worry for one moment though, this band is still all about groove so there is no need for a chair. You’ll be up dancing anyway!

With accents of soul and gospel, Fred’s powerful trombone playing sits in a trio with organist Leonardo Corradi and drummer Tony Match, some of the best musicians of their respected generations. The trio formed for a one-off performance to pay tribute to the soulful jazz of the legendary Jimmy Smith. Gelling so well, they have continued to play together. Their show combines Wesley’s raw talent, stagecraft and experience, Corradi’s energetic technical prowess and Match’s combinations of swing, African rhythms and latin grooves.
