Dublinia is proud to present Viking Fest 2018. A huge celebration of Viking Culture happening Easter weekend at Dublinia and Wood Quay from the 30th of March to the 2nd of April.
This unmissable festival of Viking heritage will host Living history demonstrations, Viking ships moored and on display in Wood Quay, and will culminate in a live outdoor spectacle with the international ‘Follow the Vikings' audio visual and theatrical performance at the historic Wood Quay amphitheatre, celebrating the cultural and historic impact of the Vikings on Saturday 31st March.
Dublinia hosts Viking Fest with support from Dublin City Council, Failte Ireland, Follow the Vikings and Creative Europe.
So, what’s happening…
Swords, shields, spears, bows axes, and the skills and tactics of Viking weaponry will be on display in the Dublinia courtyard all weekend. The special art of Viking coin minting will also be demonstrated as well as Viking crafts like tablet weaving. You’ll see history come to life with our re-enactors demonstrating how to use a quern-stone or even playing some Viking games.
All taking place at Dublinia.
Vikings Ships moored and on display
The Vikings are coming back to Wood Quay – just like they did over 1,000 years ago. Lakes Viking Warriors will have two Viking longships moored at Wood Quay on the River Liffey for all to see. A full size longship will also be aground on Winetavern Street with lots of Viking Warriors on hand to tell you all about the ship and life for them as it would have been a thousand years ago.
The highlight, the Follow the Vikings theatrical performance (SOLD OUT).
Follow the Vikings is an audio visual and theatrical extravaganza that will take place in the wonderful historic Wood Quay amphitheatre. A 45 minute experience of film, animation, projection, sound, dance, drumming, battle re-enactment and live action.
