Richmond Barracks, Saturday 21st February

Join us on Saturday 21 February for Dance Day, a day-long festival for people of all ages who are curious about trying out dance.

Curated by Artists in Residence Philippa Donnellan and Mia DiChiaro, Dance Day will offer free taster workshops of different styles of dance, dance film screenings and more. No previous dance experience is necessary and everyone is welcome.

Activities take place at various different times and must be booked in advance, except the Lunchtime Dance Film Screening which is drop-in.

Take part in a dance workshop that combines Irish traditional Sean-Nós and Contemporary Dance. Led by dance artist Sibéal Davitt, experience how traditional and modern dance styles can work together through improvisation.

The workshop will begin with a contemporary dance style physical warm-up and then you can try some Sean-Nós rhythmic step sequences set to some trad tunes and classic tracks. You do not need any previous experience of dance to take part in this workshop.

This workshop are suitable for adults and young people aged 12 years and over. People under 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian to take part.

Discover all kinds of dance moves from Rock ‘n’ Roll, to Hip Hop, K-Pop and more! Join Dance Artist in Residence Mia DiChiaro for a family-friendly dance party. Create your own special moves and leap, swing, twist and dance in wild and wonderful ways! Grown-ups will be encouraged to take part too!

This workshop is suitable for children aged 1 to 11. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us for a special screening of four short dance films. Visually and choreographically breathtaking, each film takes us outdoors and onto the street to showcase dance in some unexpected urban spaces.

Take a break between Dance Day workshops, bring your lunch, and have a cup of tea and a chat.

No need to book, just drop in.

Discover Latina Dance in this workshop celebrating the end of Dance Day. Join Brazilian dancer Yves Lorrhan to try out a combination of Samba, Salsa, Latin Ballroom and Contemporary Dance moves. No need to have a dance partner, or any previous experience of dance, just come along to dance to the best beats of Brazilian music.

This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 12+. People under 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian to take part. We will email you a permission form before the workshop.
