Fabulous Brídeóg: A Funky Doll-Making Workshop

The Amulet Gallery, Sunday 1st February

Doll-making has deep roots in the Brigit tradition, most famously through the Brídeóg—a straw doll created to honour St Brigid and paraded through communities on Brigit’s Day. Traditionally dressed in fabric scraps and decorated with flowers or shells, the Brídeóg symbolised Brigid as a bride, wearing her veil and cloak.

In this joyful, hands-on workshop, we’ll reimagine the Brídeóg for today, creating bold, playful, modern dolls inspired by this beautiful custom. Guided by artist and maker Tamara Fiabane (@toofabulousartandcrafts), you’ll be supported every step of the way—no experience needed.

All materials will be reused or repurposed, but if you have fabric scraps, ribbons, trimmings or other small treasures at home, feel free to bring them along to personalise your creation. When finished, you’re invited to bring your doll with you to the parade and let it take its place in the celebration.

Donations are welcome, but please don’t let cost be a barrier—if you can’t afford it, come anyway. This workshop is about creativity, tradition, and having fun together 💚
