Royal Irish Academy of Music, Saturday 4th October
Join the Irish Baroque Orchestra and Peter Whelan for the second installment of Classical Masterworks, where works by Van Maldere and Mozart receive a colourful rendering on period instruments.
Van Maldere's “Dublin” set of six symphonies mark possibly the earliest known symphonies to be written and performed in Ireland. Fizzing with energy, the listener has the sense of a composer revelling in all the tools at his disposal in this new and exciting form. From this we journey to Mozart's Horn Concerto K447, with IBO Principal Horn Anneke Scott as soloist. Finally, one of the best known gems in the symphonic repertoire, Mozart's expansive and lively No. 39.
