Kerlin Gallery, Friday 29th August - Saturday 4th October
Hazel is a young Irish artist based in London – originally from Co. Meath and only 27 she is now making waves in London following her MA in Chelsea College of Arts & NCAD. As well as being selected for the recent ICA young New Contemporaries Hazel is a champion for Irish Art from her piers having recently curated a show of young Irish art in abandoned offices in central London. Her work has also been featured in Good Eye Projects, Saatchi Gallery, London and Irish Art Now, Irish Embassy, London (both 2025) and solo shows at The LAB, Dublin, Solstice Arts Centre, Navan. In short, she is a really engaging and enthusiastic voice for a younger generation coming out of Ireland.
For her first show at Kerlin Gallery, Circa Ré, Hazel sources include medieval and prehistoric objects, illuminated manuscripts, and sacred grounds. Soaking in this trove of archaeological and artistic references, Hazel then manipulates colour, scale and perspective to create paintings and sculptures that tap into vernacular traditions and mythologies of ancient Ireland to create her own retro futurist narrative.
