Rialto Community Arts Festival

Rialto, Thursday 19th June - Sunday 22nd June

A community driven arts festival in the heart of Dublin 8. Welcome to the Rialto Community Arts Festival! We’re not like other arts festivals. There’s no ‘big names’ involved with this, just grassroot groups and people, all based in or around Dublin 8.

Dublin 8 is home to an amazing range of talented people, from photographers and weavers, to poets, authors and film-makers. The Rialto Community Arts Festival is here to shine a light on these amazing people, while inviting our neighbours to see just what Rialto has to offer.

What began as a conversation between a couple of people quickly turned into an idea. Thanks to the help of Fatima Groups United in the F2 Centre, Dolphin House Community Centre and St. Andrew’s Community Centre, as well as help from the City of Dublin Education and Training Board and Dublin City Council Arts Offce, our festival was born.

Static

Abbey Theatre

Static is a world premiere production written by Jimmy McAleavey and directed by John King, a former Abbey Theatre Resident Director. A veteran US astronaut is about to land back on Earth after completing his very last space flight. A lonely ham radio operator in Donegal is surfing frequencies in want of some company. This unlikely pair of conversationalists collide with life altering consequences. Static is a lyrical, searching play about isolation and the painful contradictions that surface when people try to connect.

Stumped

Bewley's Cafe Theatre

A summer afternoon in 1964. Two great playwrights… Beckett and Pinter. One very sticky wicket! Before Samuel Beckett became the playwright universally known for Waiting for Godot, he was a cricketer. He is still the only Nobel prize-winner to feature in the pages of Wisden as a first-class player. His friend and fellow Nobel prize-winner, Harold Pinter, whose best-known works include The Birthday Party and Betrayal, described cricket as ‘the greatest thing that God created on earth’. Stumped is a brilliant absurdist comedy, which explores the friendship between these two grea
