This timeless and evocative production of Madama Butterfly by Lyric Opera has been a firm favourite with Irish audiences since it was first staged in 2006. Puccini’s much loved Madama Butterfly is the dramatic tale of East meets West and a heartbreaking tragedy that unfolds to a devastatingly beautiful score.
Cio Cio San is the innocent young Geisha who falls in love with Pinkerton, a visiting American Naval officer. He casually acquires her as his bride, and their passion burns brightly for a while – until he abandons her, promising to return. Butterfly awaits him, steadfast in her love and devotion. He finally returns to break her heart, and the story reaches its tragic conclusion.
A stellar cast of Irish and international talent takes the stage, accompanied by the Lyric Opera Orchestra under the baton of Anne Sophie Duprel, for what will be an unmissable night of Irish opera.
A pre-performance talk will take place 1 hour before each performance for ticket holders.
