It’s only in recent years that the role of women in the fight for Irish Independence has been recognised and commemorated. Following a presentation, Lord Mayor Alison Gilliland hosts a panel discussion on the lack of acknowledgement of women during this important period of Ireland’s history, how women's participation in politics has evolved over the last century, and the barriers to women’s political participation today.

Guests include Hayley Brabazon, Gender and the legacy of the Irish Revolution PhD candidate, DCU; long-time women’s rights campaigner and activist Ivana Bacik TD, Rapporteur Report on Women's Participation in Politics ; and Dr Mary McAuliffe, historian, lecturer and Director of the Gender Studies Programme, UCD.
