National Power Summit

This event has ended

Croke Park, Thursday 30th January

National Power Summit 2020 is a forum for the industry to discuss the main issues and strategies for transformation within the changing electricity landscape. Ireland has successfully advanced the transformation of its energy sector over the past few years. We hold the highest share of wind in electricity generation of all the International Energy Agency member countries.

Our electricity system is capable of accommodating up to 65% of instantaneous variable generation at any given time which is testimony to the success of innovation in the sector. Ireland has also improved its energy security over recent times. However, despite the progress made Ireland is not on course to meet its mandatory emissions reductions and renewable targets for 2020. There are also concerns about our ability to meet the 2030 emission targets. The European Commission has offered a mixed appraisal of Ireland's draft NECP (National Energy Climate Plan) and have made a number of substantial recommendations for the final draft, which must be submitted in December 2019.

At this year's National Power Summit, we will feature keynotes sessions, panels discussions and case studies from experts at home and abroad who will discuss the overarching challenges for our Power sector. Speakers will talk on a wide range of subjects from disruptive technologies and digital transformation to the impact of Brexit and how we will realise our targets over the next decade. This forum, as with our previous 6 summits, provides the ideal vehicle for the industry to discuss and debate the main issues and strategies for transformation within the changing power landscape.
