Following on from the hugely successful event at Merrion Square Park this July, Dublin City Council Funtropolis is set to bring Mountjoy Square Park alive this August with a weekend that’s absolutely jam-packed with the very best in entertainment from exciting street theatre to groovy music and dance, hilarious comedy, delicious food and drink and a whole lot more. The ultimate, free family fun day set in the very heart of Dublin city.

At the Main Stage, prepare for laughs a plenty at the Comedy Magic Show with Reuben and some extra-entertaining learning with Scientific Sue and her Magical Science and Engineering Show, along with a host of interactive and immersive shows for all ages planned throughout the weekend by Curious State and Those Two Idiots, multicultural dance collective Go Dance for Change and absolutely hilarious act Doris and Mabels Book Club, two grannies bring you on an aerial circus adventure. Local heroes, The Arkins Dance Academy will also be taking to the stage, fresh from their recent bronze medal victory at the Dance World Cup!

Music lovers will be well looked after with a range of music to bop to throughout the two days including the much – loved Belle Harmonics, African Gospel Choir Dublin, Generation Pound, Dance Fit, Rhythm Africana, Morro 16 & Mundo Capoeira providing the soundtrack to the weekend plus some special guests throughout the weekend. Or if you’re keen to burn off some extra energy, why not drop by Dance Fit and move to the groove!

Over at the Science Zone, young minds will delight at The Department of Cryptozoology. Take a magical journey into a land of imagination, exploration, dreams, and wishes at the Imagination Exploration Show or be amazed by some spellbinding experiments, courtesy of the Mad Professor Fun Science Show. Learn about all things gravity and circus tricks at Doctor Brains FunBelievable Science Show and make sure you have time for the Mobile Music School who will also be on hand with their fun-filled, activity-based music workshops exploring the world of music-making in an open and relaxed environment. The Simply Science team are sure to be super popular too, with their engaging display suitable for all ages.

Prepare to be entertained with interactive and spellbinding performances from Cikadas Circus and laughs a plenty with Those Two Idiots as they navigate their hilarious day at the beach! Stop by the Stretch Tent where you can enjoy Storytelling with Smashing Times Theatre, join in with the Cosmic Movers Space Themed Dance workshop or get involved with An Australian or Amazonian Yoga Adventure with the one and only Óga Yoga. Ta Tum Tum will also be teaching families all about samba music. Sit back and enjoy the Three Little Pigs Puppet Show, a sweet, simple rendition of the much-loved children’s tale or immerse yourself in music at Pstryk!, an interactive musical experience designed especially for children aged 3-10 years.

For any budding artists, the Craft Area is the place to be with artists Jane Groves and Heather Grey helping little hands take some time out from exploring and create their very own masterpiece. Dublin’s Iconic Hugh Lane Gallery will also be providing Life Drawing workshops throughout the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled as you meander through the event as there may just be a few surprise acts to be found as you explore the park too! Avid readers can enjoy some time at the Dublin City Council Library or perhaps you’d like to get active over at the DCC Sports and Wellbeing Zone complete with a variety of sports demos.

There will be a range of tasty food and drink available for purchase in the park, along with buggy storage, bike parking and a drinking water station for refilling water bottles throughout the event. A convenient baby feeding & changing area has also been included while the removal of pitch fees for food and drink vendors will result in better value for all throughout.

Guests are encouraged to travel on foot or via public transport where possible. In an effort to ensure that all of their events are carried out as sustainability conscious as possible, Dublin City Council have also implemented a no single plastic rule across both events and also require the use of HVO generators throughout to further reduce their carbon footprint.

With diversity and inclusion at the forefront of all Dublin City Council events, the festival programme has also been thoughtfully curated to ensure that it truly reflects the people and cultures of modern Dublin.
