Marina Carr returns to the Abbey Theatre this summer and brings a little piece of Italy to Ireland’s National Stage for 9 performances only.
Joining forces once again, Marina Carr and Caitríona McLaughlin reimagine La Locandiera, Carlo Goldoni’s revolutionary masterpiece, from an urgent and contemporary perspective to give us Mirandolina.
Set in modern day Dublin, Mirandolina examines the life of a young woman trying to find her way in the world, surrounded by admirers and predators. Transcending centuries and language, Mirandolina finds fresh and unprecedented connections between the past and the present and explores the weight of female fear and the cost of fighting back.
Translated by Monica Capuani, Mirandolina is performed in Italian with English surtitles and is a co-production by the Abbey Theatre Ireland, Teatro Stabile del Veneto – Teatro Nazionale Italy, and Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka – HNK Rijeka. It premiered in Treviso, Italy, in February 2026 and toured to Belluno, Venice, Padua, Verona, Rijeka, and Milan.
