Dublin City Council with the support of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs is hosting Dublin’s National Playday Double Bubble Play Festival 2019, a fun-filled 2- Day Event which promises lots of fun and activity to celebrate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child- Article 31; the child’s right to play!

Enjoy the Festival in Merrion Square Park, Dublin 2 on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for two FREE days of accessible and inclusive play activities for children of all ages.

Lord Mayor, Paul McAuliffe will be joining in the fun on the day with his family and he says “Play is vitally important in the lives of children of all ages and abilities. They need time and space to explore their own capabilities, to be creative and to learn to interact with other children. This annual day is a great way of highlighting the importance of play in the lives of all our children and I commend Dublin City Council for organising this annual event. “

National Playday 2019 will highlight outdoor games and activities that facilitate physical active and social play opportunities and encourage parents to support this type of play at home and in their local neighbourhoods. Supporting ‘play’ as a right is the key underpinning of National Playday which involves a highly active, accessible and inclusive programme of play activities.

Debby Clarke, Play Development Officer with Dublin City Council says:
“The focus of this year’s National Playday is on getting parents and children to go back to basics when it comes to play. Play provides developmental benefits for children of all ages. By using their creativity and social interaction in a fun way children’s overall health and wellbeing is improved. I encourage families to come along to the beautiful setting of Merrion Square and enjoy all the free play opportunities with their children.”

The sound of children playing will echo throughout the beautiful surroundings of the Park making the ‘right to play’ a reality for all children and young people living in and visiting Dublin city.
