Mondays at the Mess is a series of talks at Richmond Barracks that celebrate the rich stories and experiences of the local community, past and present.

During this talk Feminist historian Dr Margaret Ward will discuss her recently re-published book Unmanageable Revolutionaries: Women and Irish Nationalism 1880-1980, a landmark study of the role of women in Irish political history. Beginning with the Ladies Land League, and continuing through to the revolutionary period, the book examines the role of women in events such as the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War, drawing on the memoirs of protagonists and research of primary source materials.

Dr Margaret Ward has authored a number of books on women’s history including Unmanageable Revolutionaries: Women and Irish Nationalism and biographies of figures including Maud Gonne and Hanna Sheehy Skeffington.
