Join Dr Negar Habibi (Soudavar Foundation Fellow, University of Genewa) for this talk on the Art of Portraiture in 17th-centure Isfahan: The Changing Tradition, part of the Coming to Isfahan lecture series.
This talk delves into Persian portrait art in the seventeenth century by reviewing single-sheet paintings and drawings. Safavid Isfahan introduced remarkably different themes into Persian painting, alongside new technical variants. As a new subject, portraiture found a considerable audience among royal patrons and the larger Isfahan public.
Onsite Lecture will be held in the museum’s Lecture Theatre and via Zoom, followed by live Q&A.
Each Coming to Isfahan lecture will be followed by a short tour of Meeting in Isfahan with the Curator of Islamic Collections, Dr Moya Carey.
