Embassy of the Argentine Republic, Wednesday 1st February - Monday 6th February

St Brigid or Naomh Bhríde is Ireland’s only female patron saint, celebrated on February 1st.

St Brigid’s day originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Imbolc, and not only it was the festival of new life and fertility but also marked the end of the darkness of winter and welcome the arrival of warmer days of spring.

As such, celebrations with festive meals and honouring old traditions were common; all in the hope to secure St Brigid’s protection and promise of a new life and abundance for the year to come.

One of these old traditions – that still stands in many households – is the Brat Bríde. People would leave a piece of cloth outside to be blessed by St Brigid as she crossed through the country on the eve of her feast. The cloth is believed to then be endowed with special curative properties to cure illness and pain in both animals and humans and would be kept safe during the year to be used for healing and protection.

So why not bring your clothes out and bless someone? Be part of our gently used clothing donation campaign to celebrate St. Brigid’s day helping those in need and inspiring people around us to do the same.

Running from 30th January – 7th February; weekdays only.

The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival, a festival created for films shot on mobile phones, was designed to be the antithesis of this. We wanted to show filmmakers that it’s the story that’s paramount, and that a simple tool like your mobile phone is an accessible and powe
