Careers in Screen Day

IFI, Thursday 28th February 2019

Following the huge success of last year's inaugural event, the IFI and the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will once again offer an inspiring and innovative day of events for young people interested in finding out more about working in the film industry.

The first guests confirmed for the 2019 event are Lenny Abrahamson, the Oscar-nominated director of RoomAdam and PaulFrank, and The Little Stranger and Consolata Boyle, three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer of The QueenFlorence Foster Jenkins and Victoria & Abdul.

This event, aimed at Senior Cycle second-level students aged 15-18 is an opportunity for students to hear from a whole variety of film industry practitioners, to learn about their work, how they got there and what advice they might give to young people starting out. Whether it's the craft side of the industry, working in front of the camera or behind, as well as other areas such as production or casting, there will be something for different interests.

IFI Family Festival

Irish Film Institute (IFI)

Spread your film wings this summer with our great programme choices. Stop off in Japan for a brand new anime, or touch down in Australia; root for Sune in Sweden, or feisty Ladhaki girl Chuskit in India. However different the setting, many of the films we’ve chosen share a common theme of characters trying to find their own way against family traditions. Biodiversity and conservation play a part too, in our rainforest-set minibeast opening film and Sunday’s closing film. With Irish premieres and big screen escapades, whatever the weather, you can see the world this July at the IFI.
